Bio

Photography has been a part of my life for a long time and I'm very happy and thankful to be able to make my living doing something I love in a beautiful part of the world.

I've been working as a professional photographer in Niseko Japan for the last five years.

My passion for photography started at high school in Canberra Australia where I had one of those inspiring teachers whose lessons stay with you forever. After high school I had the choice to study either photography or music, I choose music and completed a degree in classic guitar performance at the Victorian college of the arts in Melbourne.

Just before I turned 30 in 2002 I decided it was time to travel and chose Japan to learn the language, culture and experience life in another country. I took a job in Hakodate on the north island of Hokkaido as an assistant English teacher. The job gave me the opportunity to realise my ambitions for traveling to Japan and also share part of my Australian life and experiences with the people I met in Hakodate. It was at this time that I got back into photography and made the leap into the world of digital photography buying a laptop and digital SLR. The internet allowed me to study and develop at my own pace and shooting digitally allowed me to practice with out wasting film.

My first experience of Niseko was in December 2002 and I fell in love with the area straight away, after that I visited as often as I could and started shooting around the area for fun. While I was still teaching in Hakodate in early 2005 a friend in Niseko started asking me for pictures of the area to use commercially. The first image I ever sold was a picture of some friends drinking in a bar that was used by the resort to promote Niseko as an international ski resort, my career as a professional photographer was born.

I started selling more images and by the time I moved to Niseko in July 2006 my photography business was up and running and was immediately commissioned to shoot architectural and stock photography for local businesses. I also had a full time “day job” but after 18 months of balancing the two I was able to go full time with my photography business in January 2008 and have been working hard at it ever since.

Since then I have continued to develop my photographic skills in the fields of architectural, stock photography, 360 degree panoramic and winter action for magazines in Japan and internationally.

For the 2010/11 winter season I will be exhibiting and selling limited prints of my work at the Momiji Gallery in Niseko, if you are in the area please come and take a look.

Feel free to contact me about any of the services I provide please send me a message or give me a call.
